Abstract

This study systematically introduces the theory and practice of Transformative Mediation and explores its applicability to the Korean mediation system. It reframes conflict as a crisis in human interaction and the goal of mediation as changing the quality of conflict interaction rather than reaching settlement, centered on empowerment and recognition. It distinguishes the model from problem-solving, evaluative, and facilitative mediation, reviews empirical research from the USPS REDRESS program, examines its compatibility with Korean Confucian relational thinking, and offers institutional and practical recommendations for implementation.
